Sorting got you down?
Want to be green but sorting compost is gross and expensive?
As we move into 2017 we at Waste Busters are looking toward the future. We will continue to be brave in facing the challenges we are presented with and work hard solving the problems that our generation needs to address, like climate change, dirty water, sustainable agriculture, waste and pollution. Our approach has been to help promote sustainability through a cultural shift toward Zero Waste, starting at special events in the San Fransisco Bay Area and around California in general.
As we have worked diligently toward these ends, offering source separation of organics and recycling at events, educating crowds of attendees, collecting and processing materials for compost and recycling, we have gained a tremendous amount of experience and have sorted an even larger mountain of discards. One of the things we have found is that no matter how clear signage is, some percentage of people will still fail to sort properly. To this point, we have had to manually sort through most every bag of discards to get everything to the right place.
We are just hitting the point in time where robots are getting cheap enough to solidly beat human labor for many more types of jobs than in the past, including this one.
Affordable robots combined with the right software can lead to huge improvements in cost, safety and efficiency. The result? More organics diversion from the landfill, more profitable recycling operations and a transition to safer, higher quality jobs.
We are in the planning steps of a project to put a human-controlled robot in a trailer to sort and process materials from events, as well as to demonstrate the technology to event goers and new customers around the state. We will be crowdfunding much of the startup costs of the project, so we will be offering perks such as onsite demos, a report card for the robot, naming the robot, sponsorship, and some other useful or fun tokens of our gratitude.
Your support of this campaign can not only lead to greener events and a safer workplace, but more compost as well - and that helps everybody!
